GD Legacy Examine App

Merci.

Rock On!

Great guitar app!! I'm a faithful subscriber!!

What happened

So I signed up for a subscription. Signed up for a year back in July. I got 2 or 3 issues and then it all stopped. So what's up I paid and I love the magazine. But now what I haven't received the last 3 issues. And I see from other reviews other people having similar problems Thanks Hugh McCloy

Messy Upgrade

Updated to the latest version from the original app and all my old issues were gone and couldn't be restored in the new app. I have been a subscriber for over a year so this was more than irritating. Fortunately, there is an app called GD Archive that seems to let me download all my previously purchased issues. The issue is it is a standalone app, which is not in Newstand. I gave the original GD app 5 stars, but this new app is getting 1 star for now.

Lost all old issues

Ditto... All my old issues are gone. Deleted all, rebooted, and restored. No luck. If you have back issues, do NOT UPGRADE.

Needs some work

After re downloading and resenting my iPad, the audio does now work, so the issue may not have been with the app. I still want to see music links to the reviewed albums as in the previous magazine format; perhaps at least a link to iTunes to listen to the music? And as others have noted, I do not like the fact that I have to download a separate app to gain access to my previous issues. As a note to the editors, I do not think this magazine was any faster downloading than the prior format as this was a reason cited for the update. Other than that, the actual content and writing is superb and second to none.

Lost all previous purchases

All of my previous purchases are gone. I refuse to purchase anymore issues or recommend this to anyone until I have acces to content that I have already purchased.

Lost issues

After being forced to change deluxe app to Legacy app, all my previous issues have disappeared and are not restore-able, even though they are taking 6GB of memory. Update: Installed GD Archive app to re-download old issues, but had to delete GD Legacy app and reinstall to free-up corrupted memory. New issue sound links work on ones I tried.

Lost all my purchased issues

Just upgraded and lost all of my previous issues. Very disappointed. What's the deal guitarist?

Mag good, app lousy

Invariably my ipad 3 crashes at least three times every time I download an issue. They are 600MB per issue, take ten minutes or more to download, and cannot work in the background. If you do anything at all, including reading a different issue of the mag, the download will stop. You have to sit there watching it download from start to finish, because if your ipad sleeps during the download the app will crash and you'll have to delete and redownload it and start all over again. It's crazy. Wonder who thought that up?

The definitive iPad mag

The standard has been set. This really shows what an interactive aesthetically stunning digital version of a magazine is capable of and should be. If only all other mags would follow suit...

Tech issues fixed

It appears that the frustrating "can't restore" issue has finally been fixed. This is a tremendous presentation of a great magazine.

More than just a magazine

I am writing to tell you that the Guitarist Deluxe edition designed for iPad is wonderfully inspiring! It is like being back in school and wanting to know everything all over again! I never thought reading could be both informative AND fun! I even love the commercials with all of the videos and sound bites! When I used to read the regular issues bought at the bookstore, I would see all of the devices, amps and guitar gear within the pages of Guitarist I have wondered what must that sound like? Well, right here with a touch of my finger I can not only see it in action but get an idea of what it sounds like as well. I absolutely love it and look forward to a future of touching everything I am curious about and having my desire satisfied immediately! Great job!

buzzy

this is a fantastic example of the direction magazines should go. from the come to life cover of bb speaking about playing and his life to johnny marr playing a few bars on his new jaguar model. the lessons with played examples are much more convenient to use than the cds were. i am hoping they add more content as time goes on. i could write more but spend the $6 to see for yourself if you are a guitar lover. johnny's interview and video discussion concerning his new fender makes you want to get a hold of the jag and play it for yourself. so often i see a sig model and wonder what exactly did this person do to design the axe. for this one you know and it definitely elevates your appreciation of the model. it is something that would not have come across in printed mag. yes, the mag is expensive and if you do subscribe to the print, all digital should be included parituclarly since the print version is EXPENSIVE - it was more justified when they were shipping with a cd. this is no longer the case. they have to sort this rationally and soon. for now though i am pleased to have this mag, a vision of the future of publishing. big kudos to the team who developed this. to all readers of this, please support the effort!

A Great Multi Media Experience

I liked Guitarist in print and love the iPad app. The interviews, gear reviews and lessons are all well done in multimedia. A well integrated iPad magazine!

Where are the songs?

I purchased this subscription after viewing the free issue. It is very cool, but there are some short lessons and I was excepting full song transcriptions. For 54.99$ I feel as though I paid for a commercial with some cool features.

Nice looking - but too expensive

At $5.99 per issue there no way I would cherry pick and the subscription is WAY more expensive than I would be offered for print. These publishers need to stop trying to make top dollar on a product that has a fraction of the overhead.

Not impressed

First the app wouldnt download, they say they fixed that, but all I see are the ads and title pages for the stories, but I cant open any of the articles. And $16.99 for three issues? Seriously? no magazine is worth that. PASS. Obviously the app isnt fixed. A major let down.

Problem Fixed

The technical issue seems to be fixed. I was contacted by the editor about the problem. This app is state of the art and what an Ipad periodical should be. If you play guitar it is a must have!

Great iPad magazine

Now this is the future of publishing. This is fantastic!

GREAT Digital Mag!

This is a really great interactive version of this magazine. I love guitars and guitar gear. This is such a great way to interact with both gear and artists. the interview with Joe Bonamassa is really cool. You get to see an inside view of his home, his guitars and his creative process. Great blend of text and video throughout. Not to mention the cover. How cool is that. Normally, I am not a big ad person, but with guitars and guitar related gear I often want to look them up online to see and hear them This gives you that in one location. Well done!

POS

Wow. Biggest pos Ii've ever read. Not worth it if you pad me.

Best Digital Magazine Implementation for iPad

This is probably the best digital magazine implementation I've used for iPad. Many magazines simply provide images of the actual magazine pages. Because magazine pages are much larger than the iPad screen, they are a nightmare to use because you have to constant zoom in, zoom out and pan. The Guitarist Deluxe magazine iPad-version is DESIGNED for the iPad rather than PORTED to it. I would say the iPad version is superior to the print version because it is highly interactive and fun to use. Instead of having to refer to CD contents, you can just tap on different parts of the screen. Screen rotations are also used to great effect and reveal different content. Even the advertisements are fun to view and I found myself interacting with them. This should be good news to advertisers and the finances of the magazine publisher. Many iPad versions are more complicated to use than their print versions; however, the Guitarist Deluxe is the opposite. It uses technology to make things easier and better than the print version. I just hope their other magazines also integrate the cover mounted material as much of the value of Future Magazine publications come from that content. If so, they will be getting subscriptions from me. Well done! And 5 stars!
